Tom Naylor-Leyland, the son of Sir Philip Naylor-Leyland, has stepped into a leading role across the family’s historic estates with an ambition to evolve the Fitzwilliam Estates into a dynamic, modern property business and ensure that the sites remain current for generations to come.

Tom Naylor-Leyland aims to modernise stewardship and estate structures, focusing on sustainable placemaking, strengthening local economies, and managing land responsibly.

The portfolio spans four locations: Malton, Wentworth, Milton and Nantclwyd, which all represent significant heritage assets and thriving rural communities.

Specifically at Malton, the new ‘Made in Malton’ programme of placemaking underpinned by spotlighting the breadth and success of the town’s creator economy is an example of how the Fitzwilliam Estate is committing to a fresh initiative of long-term support for businesses, including helping to develop local entrepreneurs with training and skills and attracting business talent from further afield.

Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “These estates carry deep histories and significant responsibilities. Standing still is not an option, and my focus is to provide future-facing stewardship that honours our heritage while actively building modern prosperity. We are committed to fostering resilient rural businesses and ensuring the estates are sustainable and kept up to date in every sense - socially, environmentally, and economically.”

James Behrens, Chief Executive, said: "Tom’s role provides vital strategic continuity across our diverse portfolio. While he sets the long-term vision, day-to-day delivery remains in the hands of our professional local management teams, ensuring we remain responsive partners to the communities we serve.”
