The Fitzwilliam Malton Estate, working with JDC Decorators of Scarborough, is redecorating one of Malton’s most iconic streets to keep it bright and vibrant.

Built in 1826 after the 4th Earl Fitzwilliam moved the Cattle Market from the Market Place to its current site, The Shambles takes its name from the word 'shammel' or 'fleshshammel' which originally referred to the displaying of meat on wooden benches and shelves. In 1848, 35 butchers were recorded as trading in Malton, many of them from this street!

Now, The Shambles is Grade II listed and is home to a beautiful terrace of shops occupied by a lively mix of independent traders - well worth a visit!
