On Saturday 29th February at 11am TallBoy Interiors will throw open the doors of their very first retail outlet at Saville House on Saville Street after transferring the business to Malton from a warehouse on the outskirts of Leeds.
TallBoy Interiors is owned by young entrepreneur Matt Dixon - a qualified interior designer with a specialty in fabrics and reupholstery. Matt scours private house collections and antique markets across Europe to bring together an eclectic collection of weird and wonderful antique and vintage pieces of furniture, art and accessories. Matt is no stranger to Malton having provided many of the period pieces for the refurbishment of The Talbot last year.
Fitzwilliam Malton Estate has invested circa £260,000 over the past 12 months in carefully and sympathetically refurbishing Saville House, regarded as one of the most iconic buildings in Malton. The Grade II Listed Building on Saville Street was originally built in the early part of the 19th Century as an Independent Chapel. It was subsequently converted to a workshop and was most recently, until 2018, the home of Malton Cookery School. Now many of the magnificent original features of the building, including the mezzanine gallery, balcony, vaulted ceiling and the arched windows resplendent with golden stained glass borders have been brought back into focus to create a stunning 21st Century retail environment.

Matt says “the last 18 months have been a challenge in the planning and conservation process but with the unstinting support of the team at Fitzwilliam Malton Estate the wait for what is now a stunning new retail space has been well worth the effort. Malton is such an exciting town and has a fantastic vibe for independent retail - I simply cannot wait to welcome everybody to our new showroom this weekend.”
Helen Barry Estate Manager said “bringing a dilapidated building back to life has been an exciting project, which has only been possible with expertise and support from skilled professionals including heritage advisors, architects, our building contractors Repair & Restoration Ltd and the Listed Building Officers at Ryedale District Council
