FITZWILLIAM ESTATE RENTS OUT FIVE ALLOTMENTS IN MALTON

There’s been good news this Spring for five people wanting to grow their own fruit and veg in Malton. Five new allotments in the California Gardens Allotments, on Castle Howard Road, have been created and rented out by the Fitzwilliam Estate.

Roddy Bushell, Estate Manager says: “In response to a revival of interest in allotments we are delighted to have been able to provide these plots to local people who have been on our waiting list.

“It is in the nature of allotments, or perhaps it is human nature, that people hold on to them for longer than they need, and they become unproductive and overgrown. In response to renewed demand we have recovered five of them and spent the winter clearing them ready for the spring.

“We have allocated the allotments to the first five people on our waiting list. The cost is £20 per year. In total, the Estate owns 62 allotments spread over California Gardens in Malton and Lascelles Lane and Cemetery Lane in Old Malton.

Anyone interested in being placed on the Estate’s waiting list for an allotment can either visit the Estate Office on Old Maltongate, email: office @maltonestate.co.uk or telephone 01653 692849.
