The New Malton combines traditional hospitality with a modern vibe

Malton, the food loving town in the heart of Ryedale, has a new venue for food and drink lovers to discover since The New Malton eatery opened in the historic Market Place West.

Anthony Gillham and Gemma Williams have redesigned the 18th century building, to create  a warm and welcoming  destination offering a menu of freshly cooked, quality food, cask ales, a list of more than 40 wines and a full bar service.

The New Malton is open daily from 11.30am and located in the heart of Malton, its wooden benches, polished flag stones, bar and fire surrounds have echoes of classic inn keeping traditions.  Anthony and Gemma have added their own touches with well chosen items and accessories collected from local antique fairs.

On cooler days a real fire will be glowing and families, including the dog will be able to enjoy a superb, relaxing meal. Anthony Gillham, who has been in the catering industry for many years, and a chef for over 8, primarily in and around Cheshire, was a favourite with the crowds at this year’s Food Lovers Festival where he took part in Cookery Theatre demonstrations.  And he is delighted to get back to his Yorkshire roots as he comes from Selby.

His reputation for excellent cuisine is based on dishes that have proved to be real crowd pleasers. The New Malton’s customers will be able to sample his famous chicken salad- a dish that proved so popular in Cheshire, it always remained on his previous menus.  Served with a special dressing, a touch of Thai flavours and fresh mini vegetables it looks likely to go down well in Malton too.

The New Malton will make the most of seasonal local fresh produce and will work with the nearby beer and wine merchants to produce just the sort of imaginative and stylish menu Malton and its visitors have been waiting for.

Anthony says: “It is such a thrill to convert a beautiful building into a warm and friendly place for visitors to come through the day.  We look forward to serving the best fresh food and drink and offering a great family friendly atmosphere.  We are sure our Sunday lunchtimes will be popular for  get-togethers and celebrations.”

Fitzwilliam Estates has provided invaluable help for Anthony and Gemma to convert the rooms and facilities within the New Malton. Its encouragement and support has meant that the pub cum restaurant is going to form part of the essential food “pull” for Malton, and as part of its ongoing management and financial provision for all the food based We Love Malton events in the town.
